The cornerstone of the Aquaticum was laid in the summer of 2018, and in two years the country’s most modern beach bath was completed.
Minister Gergely Gulyás said at the handover that, in terms of local developments, for the first time there is a good chance that Debrecen will be the economic, educational and entertainment center of the cross-border region - an important part of which is the the place.
László Papp, the mayor of Debrecen, called beach development a "non-average investment", because it was a great challenge to create a unique one in terms of appearance and experience next to the beach in Hajdúszoboszló, the largest spa complex in Europe.
It was also stated at the handover that the beach in Nagyerdei is not in competition with the spas of the area, on the contrary: tourists arriving in Eastern Hungary can find unique attractions in a 120-kilometer area near Debrecen in Hajdúszoboszló, Nyíregyháza-Sóstó and Miskolc-Tapolca.
